I am feeling particularly frantic tonight. It could be because things are looking so dire that right because yesterday results of the practice exam I (and thousands of others) took last weekend were posted last night, and I found out that I did terribly compared to others.. Like waaaay below average. So here I am on a Saturday night, at home studying while Vadim is out with MY friends (well ok, so they've become his friends now - but I don't think he's ever hung out w/ them without me) and they have all called me repeatedly to convince me to go and join them, and instead I just answer in a hysterical tone that I can't go anywhere... As in how dare they expect me to drop all this studying and drive God knows how far just to have some fun. Don't they know what I'm up against here?
In an unrelated note, to take a break today I watched the amazingly cheesy movie "Shall we Dance". Even though I hate Jennifer Lopez, it still was a very cute movie, even though I agree with the NY Times review that towards the end they piled on the mushy stuff way too thick. In any case, I really loved a quote from Susan Sarandon's character. When somebody asks her whether she thinks people get married initially because of passion and romance, she disagrees, and says that people get married because they want a witness to their lives. There are so many people in the world that every individual's life story seems completely meaningless and unimportant. But when you get married, you have a person who is there to witness and care about every little aspect of your life - from the painful, to the exhilirating, from the exciting to the absolutely boring and mundane. And you feel that your life does matter, because here is this person to whom it all matters. Or something... Anyway, I'm sure that I am not explaining this as eloquently as she put it, but the whole thing made me cry.. It really rings true for me, even though in my head I can already hear all the numerous arguments that can be made against this idea..
